Panorama NovaView for SAP NetWeaver BI
Key Features
Direct Connectivity to SAP NetWeaver BI
The Panorama NovaView Server for SAP BW accesses SAP BW using current user credentials and an ODBO protocol. The Server runs the queries requested by the user on the relevant InfoCubes/InfoQueries using MDX, and displays the results using its Web tools.
The Panorama NovaView Server for SAP BW is capable of running queries on both InfoCubes and InfoQueries, allowing users to utilize cached InfoQuery datasets, reducing query retrieval time and minimizing resource expenditure. NovaView for SAP BW is also capable of integrating with the SAP BEx (Business Explorer), utilizing its querying capabilities for generating queries and analyzing InfoObjects and InfoProviders.
Advanced Analytics
Panorama NovaView makes it easy to select, filter and highlight subsets of data for further analysis, based on wizards and rules designed for business users. Value filters, available from a pop-up menu, let you select data sets based on Boolean logic, ranges, top and bottom count, and top and bottom percent. You can add sliders set to predefined filter values, such as the top 5, 10, or 25 sales representatives or accounts.
A Select Members pop-up menu lets you select dimension members manually or search for members based on alphanumeric characteristics (exact match, starting with, or pattern). For example, Panorama NovaView can find a customer name or an inventory part number from thousands or millions of records using the search function.
Exception management features enable users to identify results above or below expectations quickly. Panorama NovaView’s “bubble-up” exceptions feature can find poorly performing products, sales outlets, or customers at the lowest level of detail.
Advanced Time Based Analysis
Panorama NovaView excels at time-based analysis, a hallmark of business intelligence applications. Panorama NovaView knows what the current day, week or month is. Using that information, the MDX time functions will provide year-to-date results through the current day, week, or month. A user only has to select the appropriate date level and Panorama NovaView does the rest.
Users can toggle back and forth from calendar time, to fiscal time, to reporting time periods. Panorama NovaView knows what time hierarchy is in use, so all the time period comparisons work correctly with no user intervention.
Panorama NovaView's Time Period Comparison dimension incorporates a wide variety of calculations with variances, including current period, previous period, same period last year, YTD, MTD, and WTD. Current YTD, MTD, and WTD also can be compared to the same periods last year.
Performance Enhancement
Panorama NovaView for SAP BW offers an innovative caching solution that improves the performance of SAP BW access significantly. This solution uses an algorithm to determine what views should be cached, and in what order. For each user action, NovaView generates a separate MDX query. Each result is saved separately as a view in the NovaView cache. The final result set comprises each of these MDX queries, collectively referred to as the “extended state” of a cached NovaView query. In this way, every step a user takes to get to the final answer becomes part of the cache. Any step of the query can be accessed by another user from the cache, without the query going back to the OLAP processor.
Application Metadata
Panorama NovaView Server for SAP BW utilizes the application metadata in order to promote user collaboration and support reduced load on system resources. NovaView enables system users to save generated views in a private view-set (called a "Briefing Book"), and re-access the view without recourse to additional queries. Users can also share their Briefing Book contents, allowing other users access to the previously generated views, and reducing the amounts of queries, data traffic, and system load required when multiple users access data.
Security
Enterprise web-driven BI systems usually have several security layers: portal/web/access, report/view, and data. The Panorama NovaView Server for SAP BW offers security options at each level, ensuring that enterprise data is accessed confidentially and at the discretion of the organization. Panorama NovaView for SAP BW supports both User and Group impersonation protocols.
Integration
Panorama NovaView can be integrated as a set of iView components in SAP Portal, enabling enterprise users to leverage the business and collaboration advantages of Panorama NovaView from within the mySAP Portal. mySAP Portal pages can be attributed to various SAP users in order to customize and personalize the data, making sure that the right information gets to the right people and supporting business-level compartmentalization.
Management
The Panorama NovaView SAP BW Server has logging and auditing options. These features enable top-level tracking and monitoring of system usage, as well as usage analysis: examining query and usage patters for internal analysis purposes.
The Server can also authenticate and utilize SAP users from within Panorama NovaView, leveraging integration capabilities and enabling a streamlined and efficient work-process. Panorama NovaView Server Properties can be configured via the Panorama Administration Interface, avoiding the potential problems and errors inherent in multi-access configuration requirements.
