Member Selection allows you to focus on specific data by displaying only selected members on the grid and the chart, and hiding the others. Member Selection can be applied only to members from the same level.
You can use the Select Highlighted Members option from a member menu to select members you have highlighted.
To select a single member:
Click in the member heading, and from the member
menu select Select highlighted members.
The grid and chart now display
only the selected member. A filter icon appears in the heading of the member’s
dimension indicating that a member selection has been performed in
that dimension.
Example
In the following example, the Europe member has been selected.
To select multiple members:
1. To select adjacent members, click the first member, and then hold down Shift and click the last member.
To select nonadjacent members, click the first member, and then hold down Ctrl and click additional members.

Click in the heading of one of the highlighted
members. From the member menu, select Select highlighted
members.
The grid and chart now
display only the selected members. A filter icon appears in the heading of the member’s
dimension indicating that a member selection has been performed in
that dimension.
The Select Members option from a dimension menu enables you to perform more advanced member selection.
To perform an advanced member selection:
1. Click on the dimension heading and select Select members from the dimension menu.
2. In the Select Members in <Dimension> dialog box, click on a member in the All Members panel and click the arrow to move it to the Selected panel, or just double-click a member.
To deselect members in the Selected panel, double-click them. They will move back to the All Members panel.
To
search for a member, click Search , type in the search text and click the filter
button (or press Enter).
Select Allow drill down on selected members if you want to allow drilling down to lower levels of hierarchy for the selected members.
When the Show caption option is selected only the member names display. When deselected, only the parents are displayed.
3. Click OK.
The grid and chart now display only the selected members. A
filter icon appears in the heading of the dimension
indicating that a member selection has been performed in that
dimension.
To remove member selection, click the filter icon in the dimension heading.
The grid and the chart now reveal the members that were hidden because of the member selection. In the grid, the dimension is returned to the top of the hierarchy (and not to what it looked like before the member selection was performed).
