Infographics Overview

An infographic is an entity that integrates images, shapes and text to reveal information and trends from the connected data source. After you create and design an infographics entity using the Infographics option, it becomes available to the end-user via the Infographics Component, and in grids and maps in a workboard.

The following steps describe the infographics design flow:

1. Create an Infographics Family

Infographics entities are grouped into families representing categories or themes of your choice, such as your lines of business. Before creating the infographics, you create the relevant families. An infographics family is connected to a data source – an OLAP cube or a Necto model. The contents of an infographics entity are based on the data source of the family to which it belongs.

2. Create an Infographics Entity

An infographics entity consists of predesigned graphic objects. You use the Infographics Designer to pick the graphic objects for the entity you are creating. You use the Property Editor in the Designer to define entity-level properties.

Infographics entities can be defined for three types of presentations: (1) As tile – for use in Infographics components (2) As list – for displaying member values in table format, in Infographics components (3) In grid – for use as in-cell visuals only.

3. Design the Graphics

Each graphic object has its appropriate properties that enable you to design the visual aspect: size, colors, fonts, animation, and more. You use the Property Editor in the Designer to define graphic object-level properties.

4. Set the Business Logic

Properties at each of the three levels - infographics family, infographics entity and graphic object, can be used to build the knowledge and insights for end-users. The Data Link option attached to such properties allows you to highlight important content by defining rules, conditions and custom formulas.

5. Use the Infographics Entity in a Workboard

End-users can open an infographics component in their workboard, and drag infographics entities into it. The following is an example of a workboard with infographics.

Infographics entities defined for “in grid” presentation can be used in grids and in map components.
