Overview

Necto supports two types of users:

§  Active Directory users: When an Active Directory user logs into Necto for the first time, a user entity is created for him/her in Necto. Based on the user’s Active Directory group, he/she is added to a Necto role.

Active Directory users can be automatically created also when importing OLAP roles into Necto.

Active Directory users created in Necto appear in the Users Pane of the Users page under the domain (folder) name, and all user management functions can be applied to them.

When the authentication method being used is “Windows” or “Mixed”, Active Directory users already authenticated to a domain have transparent access to Necto without being asked for login information.

§  Necto users: This type of user is not created automatically, and must be defined to Necto either manually via the New User option or by importing from a flat file. This entity type can be used to allow access to users that are not defined in the organization’s Active Directory, such as partners and distributors.

When the authentication method being used is “Necto” or “Mixed”, Necto users are directed to a login page when accessing Necto, where they have to provide a user name and a password.

Both types of users can be imported into Necto from a CSV file, using the Import Users option in the Administration page.

A role is a category of Necto users or groups of users from the Active Directory. Roles are used to implement both content security (permissions to Necto entities) and data security (access rights to data).

Roles are defined via the New Role option in the Roles page. Roles can also be imported from the OLAP cube to Necto using the Import Roles option in the Administration page.
